In the community of Cacimba do Silva, in the Itamotinga District of Juazeiro, cheese production is part of the heritage, passed down for generations from the communities’ ancestors. Our associates at Mineração Caraiba, together with the Cacimba do Silva Cooperative and the municipality at large, endorsed the construction and legalization of the Cacimba do Silva Center for Cheese Production (Queijaria Nucleo). This enterprise has an operational production capacity of 70 blocks of artisanal cheese per day and 320 liters of milk weekly.

Helmed by RHI Magnesita, this project nurtured 150 children and adolescents through environmental and athletic activities, language training and other pursuits, directly fostering improvements in their health and quality of life, as well as interpersonal relationships and emotional bonding. Additionally, the project offered classes in water aerobics for roughly 40 parents and guardians, providing a means to spend some time in a manner both productive and healthy.

Our associate Fazenda Brasileiro collaborated in the sustainable development of communities they support by pushing to instill a set of measures aimed at contributing to an overall quality of life. These measures are divided into four objectives: community development, the environment, family life, and, notably the most important objective for the region, healthcare.

Conscious of the importance of cultural celebrations and the historical and cultural heritage of communities located in proximity of its operations, our associates Mineracao Caraiba are taking initiative with their operation ‘Cultural Salvage,’ mobilizing social investments in the culture and history of neighboring communities. This culminated in the restauration of the community’s historic chapel in Poco de Fora, an important cultural milestone in salvaging the regions history.

Another Project enacted by RHI Magnesita, developed and financed by the company and led by a pool of volunteers, this work takes 3 rd year public high school students in Brumadinho and inspires them to think like true citizens of Brazil. Lessons are designed for students to contemplate the true nature of their “citizenship,” forcing a critical self-awareness of their motivations and the larger contexts of their school performances, as well as towards the responsibilities they hold in their personal and professional development.
